Driving More Local Traffic with WordPress

Plugins to help drive more traffic via Google

Google loves local and Google will love your business if you make sure it understands as much as possible about your business. Luckily, in WordPress there are a number of plugins that allow you to easily create local based snippets that get sent to Google so it can include you on relevant local search terms.

Google also likes to show localised results to those searching on mobile devices, so you could be missing out on people looking for your services and be right around the corner – but Google sends them elsewhere – as you are not listed in their local database.

Here are two examples – one a pay-for plugin and one free.

Yoast Local SEO

If you already use WordPress you may already have a Yoast plugin such as Yoast SEO (and if not – you may want to add it). The Yoast Local provides you with a very easy process to add all the various types of technical code Google needs to help place you site.

Local Search SEO Contact Page Plugin

Or, if you want to try a free plugin, you can use the basic free version of the Local Search SEO contact page plugin. This might be a great way to get you started and receiving traffic from Google Local Search terms.

It can literally put you on the map.

Coupons

Other options to drive local traffic could be to use a localised Coupon. Coupons are a great way to attract local business. I bet you got at least one coupon in the mail this week. One way to use this without mass mailing is to use a plugin to offer a discount.

This discount that then be made available to local customers searching online via Google or via social media sites such as Facebook that do offer the ability to display ads in a geographical area around your office.

This will allow you to create any number of plugins both for your own products but also anyone else’s you want to set up as well. So you could look to create coupons for other local businesses and add them to a local deals section on your site. This could be a great way to offer local value and drive local traffic to your site.

It is only around £25 to use on your site and could be a real way to differentiate form your local competitors.

Having weekly / monthly offers is also a great way to make sure you get people coming back to your site. You can do this by sharing offers on your Facebook page or in your marketing newsletters. If you are not doing either of these then do drop us a line.
